Biography
Lucy O’Byrne is a Boulder-based jazz saxophonist, woodwind specialist, and educator known for her bold tone, collaborative spirit, and deep commitment to creative expression. Drawn especially to the energy and freedom of bebop, her playing and teaching reflect a passion for improvisation and exploration across jazz styles.
Lucy began on flute at age 10 and quickly found her voice in the saxophone. She received early mentorship through Jazz Aspen Snowmass and went on to earn scholarships to leading programs, including those at Berklee College of Music, Brevard Music Center, and UNC Chapel Hill.
Currently pursuing a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, Lucy performs throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and Denver metro area as both a soloist and sideman. She thrives in collaborative settings, always seeking to expand what’s possible through shared musical vision.
As an educator, Lucy teaches saxophone and woodwinds to students of all ages, with a focus on strong fundamentals, creativity, and confidence. She is especially dedicated to mentoring young women in jazz and building inclusive spaces in the music community.
